Review essay writing components

The five slides above are your primary focus when writing and providing evidence when defending your thesis statement.

CLASS NOTES

CLASS NOTES

Writing Process

Students brainstormed a few elements
of an introduction in an essay.
The beginnings of a thesis statement. Students
identified their point of view Okonkwo and will develop
their essay with evidence from the text.

A student's interpretation of Okonkwo along with a character analysis.
Students move from 4 square writing to another
graphic organizer detailing their first paragraph in
their persuasive essay.

Another example of student work.
Students conducted peer editing. Students worked in pairs
and provided suggestions to each other.

During peer editing, the partner suggested changing
the word "power" to "social status" since
it is a vocabulary word studied this month.
Excellent idea!!:-) He helped him make the change :-)
Homework: Complete 1 of 3 options.

Next Step; Next Month

This is the vocabulary for the month...
There will be the test at the end of the month.
Be ready tomorrow.

Bulletin board for the month of October.
The board is developed with quality work in mind.
Perfection is not the goal; however, there needs to be evidence of growth.

Growth is defined in different ways. In ADLclass, growth is being able to self-assess which is the ability to critique your own work and applying the correction immediately. As I went through all your work folders and circulated during class time, I noticed common trends occurring. Students need to take immediate action with teacher feedback both verbal and written. You need to treat your work as if it is in a state of emergency. Remember during our lesson on how we should treat different types of emergencies (reviewing protocol of soft lockdown in schcool), we defined emergency as a sudden need for immediate action. We have no time to take it easy. Behaviors, routines in the classroom, and the quality of work has been heading the wrong direction. Let's start the next month with these keywords this in mind: immediate, quality, and emergency. This next step is crucial.

Homework for tonight is to study for tomorrow's vocabulary test.
Oh...please be careful when adding an apostrophe 's' ('s) at the end of a word. It does not make a word plural--more than 1; instead, it becomes possessive. Email me if you are still unsure when or how to use an apostrophe 's' ('s).

We're cooking!!!

Making rice krispie treats...
Students from V00 identified ingredients needed to complete
the recipe. Before they started cooking, they washed their hands
and the tools they needed.

One of my students had his own version to the traditional way of making
these treats.

We used the microwave to melt the butter and marshmallows.

Another  group of students measured the rice krispies.

It was a team effort to make these treats. As a pair of students measured another student mixed
in the melted butter and marshmallows.

First Batch!!

Student cutting the treats so everyone gets a
piece.

Student from class X01 cleaned up and washed the dishes.

Batch #2...just as good as the first batch!!!

Homework: As we were making the rice krispie treats, we briefly discussed whether we should sell them and how much we should charge.

Please write 5 sentences or a list of 10 words explaining why we should or should not be selling these treats and defend your pricing. Include the following elements in your answer.

**Topic sentence--first sentence stating your opinion.

**Evidence based terms.
**Use the examples below in your writing.

**If you need additional help to complete the assignment, please ask your parents, guardian, or siblings to help out. Or you can always email me at msyip751@gmail.com***

Next Step: It is a skill that everyone needs to practice...LISTENING. For this reason, you have been assigned a listening activity over the extended weekend. I hope when we all come back on Tuesday, we will listen better whether it be the directions given for an activity, assignment, travel training, or at the cafeteria. Please listen to what is asked.

Have a relaxing and restful three days!!

NEXT STEPS; NEXT MONTH

Dear Students,
During the first month of school, I have noticed some wonderful things happening such as:
  1. consistant attendance
  2. homeworks being returned
  3. discussions relevant to the development of productive citizens after completion of 751
  4. students editing their work by rewriting and proofreading their work
  5. classroom routines (timecards, picking up work folders, and revising work) are firmly in place.
With all this being said, today's vocabulary test reminds us that there is still work to be done. Please take on the leadership role and be the positive example to your peers. DO NOT let them distract or influence the path of your education.

I am proud of everyone's efforts but there are many challenges in front and ahead of us!
See you tomorrow!!

2nd Week--NEXT STEP/Homework

Everyone has a yellow post-it note of the work they have not completed. As mentioned in previous posts, the completion of work is important to the success of your school year. Every lesson is connected to each other.

Also, for homework, please bring back your permission slips for the trip on Wednesday, we will gain hands-on experience on doing laundry.

I know you all may think that you know how to do laundry but as I demonstrated today with my black skirt that I messed up while doing my own laundry...everyone needs practice.

Have a great weekend! See you all on Monday!

First week of school--NEXT STEPS

Good afternoon students,

We just completed our first week of school together. I am extremely proud at the level of work and engagement from each and every one of you have displayed. Keep up the great work and the level of rigor that 751M is all about.

A few next steps for all students to pay close attention to. After reviewing your class work and homework, I would like everyone to focus on their punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. Also, be mindful of the homework assignments and future lessons by visiting my blog at

http://751adl.blogspot.com

Have a relaxing weekend and be prepared for another challenging school week.
